Spa in the City at Mineral House

April 10, 2016 in Hotels 2

We all have moments when we need to get off the monotonous hamster wheel of life, switch off our gadgets and just appreciate some ‘Me Time’. Well, now I have found the perfect place to do just that without even needing to leave the city… Mineral House Spa at the Crowne Plaza Hotel!

Along with several other North East bloggers, I was recently invited along to check out the facilities and enjoy a rejuvenating treatment (I know, lucky right?). I’d heard great things about Mineral House already, one of my favourite bloggers Katie Jane wrote about back in September shortly after it first opened but this was my first visit and I was very much looking forward to it after a busy week at work. I booked a half day holiday, switched on my out of office and eagerly made the short walk from my city centre office to the newly built hotel located behind Central Station.

After wandering around the huge and impressive hotel reception looking like a lost pup I was directed to the basement by a friendly member of staff. As I stepped in to Mineral House I immediately felt like I was walking in to an oasis of calm and as the lift doors closed behind me I allowed myself to forget the huge to do list that had been swirling around my brain!

The first thing I noticed was the gym area which seemed to be small but well equipped. To be honest though, the idea of working out hadn’t crossed my mind and I hadn’t brought any gym clothes. Instead I changed in to my swimsuit, covered up in the soft cosy robe I’d been supplied with and joined my fellow bloggers in the relaxation area. I was so chilled out, sipping on mocktails and gossiping that I could have happily sat there for hours but the lure of the pool was too much so I excused myself and went for a swim.

Mineral House has a 10 metre pool and I’m pleased to report the water was quite warm. The lighting was rather subdued which created a tranquil environment and there are several loungers on which to relax and dry off after a swim. I grabbed a few magazines from reception and lay there for ages, pretending I was on my holidays!

There’s also a very sumptuous jacuzzi pool and a steam room but sadly no sauna. I loved the jacuzzi and had it all to myself for about twenty minutes.

The absolute highlight of my day was my half hour treatment, I chose to have a back, neck and shoulder massage and I have to say, it really was one of the BEST I have ever had!! My female masseuse was clearly very experienced and immediately put me at ease. I felt like I was in very safe hands! I’ve had several massages before and although all of them have left me feeling relaxed and pampered, it’s not often I’ve actually felt the therapeutic benefits afterwards but in this case I definitely did!

Guests staying at the Crowne Plaza Hotel can access the Mineral House facilities for free or spa packages can be booked from £55 per person including a treatment plus food & a cocktail. I will definitely be making a return visit, it’s my new city centre sanctuary!
