My New Favourite Bar: The Botanist

January 31, 2015 in Eating Out 12

It seems like every North East blogger worth their salt has been heaping praise upon Newcastle’s newest bar and restaurant, The Botanist. So I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon and make sure that anyone coming to this site looking for nightlife suggestions has The Botanist firmly on their list of places to visit!

Unfortunately I was on holiday when The Botanist first opened in December but the flurry of impressive Instagram pics, Facebook likes and complimentary Tweet’s made me want to visit as soon as I got back!

I finally got my chance to check out what all the fuss was about when I was invited along to a VIP launch event on the 15th of January. There was a free bar so needless to say Dry January went out of the window, oops!

The friendly bar staff introduced me to a brand of dark rum I’d never tried before called Appleton Estate and I now have a new favourite drink as well as a new favourite bar!

There was live music on the night too, a guitar and piano playing duo kept the crowds happy doing covers of everything from The Coral to Nina Simone. My foot was tapping all night long.

The food coming from the kitchen looked so tasty and I although there were yummy platters of bar snacks being offered around I can’t wait to go back and try something from the main menu.

I’m really looking forward to summer now and not just because I’m sick of being so cold but because I think The Botanist will become even more appealing thanks to it’s unique outdoor terrace overlooking Grey’s Monument. Something tells me it’s going to get very busy up there on sunny days.

After being blown away by the interior decor at The Botanist, I’m struggling to remember what the space looked in its former life as part of Monument Mall shopping centre. I think it’s fair to say that it’s yet another fine example of how Newcastle city centre is going from strength to strength!

Fab post – thanks for including a link to my review too 🙂 Definitely agree with you, The Botanist looks unrecognisable from its former life as Monument Mall. It’s so exciting to see Newcastle undergo this transformation though! Let’s keep our eyes peeled to see what happens next!! Lovely to catch up there the other day, will have to meet up again soon!

I just LOVE the Botanist – I have been four times now. I know some people have had bad experiences with their food but my experiences have been nothing but perfect – LOVE the cocktails and live musics, ADORE their children’s meals and we had a fabulous steak and bottle of red last week (I recommend the Chilean merlot). I thought because I have been four times now I might be sick but I’m not – Can’t get enough! Thanks for the mention.
