Rachel's Guide to Newcastle and Beyond!
November 10, 2014 in Eating Out 6
Autumn in Geordieland has been unusually mild this year and it’s only in the last couple of weeks that I’ve had to dig out my winter coat and wooly gloves. Now that the clocks have gone back and the temperature has lowered I’ve been craving comfort foods so when an email landed in my inbox inviting me to sample a new offer at Hotel du Vin called ‘L’Entente Cordiale’, well the timing couldn’t be better!
‘L’Entente Cordiale’ is a feature of the new winter menu that allows you to choose from a selection of heart-warming main courses, including duck shepherd’s pie, haddock and chips and fish pie, perfectly paired with a glass of house red or white wine, for just £13.95
James and I only had a short walk from where we’d parked the car on Byker Bank but were still outside long enough to feel the cold so the sumptuous lounge with its plush sofas and log fire was the perfect welcome!
We didn’t stop there long though as the waiter must have heard our rumbling tummies and quickly showed us through to the bistro. The list of starters also included plenty of winter warmers and I just couldn’t resist ordering the cheese soufflé, one of my favourites!
All the mains sounded delicious but in the end I opted for Toulouse sausage and mash as it seemed like the perfect combination of a classic British dish with the French twist that Hotel du Vin is famous for.
The accompanying French wines were also very tempting but I let James have mine as I was still off the alcohol for Stoptober 🙁 I really enjoyed the food though, it was just what the doctor ordered on a cold winter night and as always, the service was impeccable.
I think it’s safe to say that the bistro at Hotel du Vin is still firmly on my list of favourite places to eat in NewcastleGateshead. You can read about my previous visits HERE and find out more about the menu HERE

Oh I love the hotel du vin – such a lovely place to relax away from the hustle and bustle of the city! – Sam, North East Family Fun
The food looks lovely. We keep meaning to go for dinner and I’m kicking myself we missed the alfresco dining .. where did the Summer go?!
