Rachel's Guide to Newcastle and Beyond!
September 28, 2014 in Eating Out 5
As soon as I saw the posters go up in the huge windows of the former Lodge bar, proudly promising the ‘Best Steak in Newcastle’, I was immediately excited about the launch of Miller and Carter, show me a meat lover that wouldn’t be!
The overhaul of the stunning old building near the bottom of Grey Street seemed to take forever as I eagerly awaited the opening, but last Thursday my patience was rewarded with an invite to the VIP launch night where I got the chance to sample some mouth-watering canapés and get a glimpse of the new decor.
I have to admit, I’d never been a huge fan of the Lodge, I don’t know whether it was the music or the crowd but I barely recognised the place as I stepped inside it’s reincarnation. Miller and Carterhttp://www.millerandcarter.co.uk/restaurants/north-west/millerandcarternewcastleMiller and Carter is a sophisticated, grand and really rather stylish restaurant that’s definitely made the most of the unique building!
I headed straight for the balcony (where there’s a second bar and more tables for dining) as I wanted to see how many of those enormous and beautiful windows I could fit in the lens of my new Kitvision Edge HD10 (It’s a big like a GoPro Hero camera but much more affordable!).
Although the photo above is the first pic I’ve taken with the camera and some practice is obviously required, I think it captures the splendour of this wonderful new addition to Newcastle’s dining scene.
As part of the VIP evening, we were given a butchery demonstration by Jim Brand of Fairfax Meadow who explained that Miller & Carter guarantee only the best quality, as all beef is Red Tractor Farm Assured from top breeds and hand picked farms. He told us that the beef is 30 day aged to give it the succulence and tenderness it deserves. There are nine cuts to choose from on the menu, including fillet, ribeye and Chateaubriand; each individually hand cut by master butchers before being grilled to perfection.
I love M&C! There’s one in Essex which is on an actual boat…this was my favourite one!! Oh and the steak is amazing!
Great post, I was going to stay for the night time event but had other plans! Would have been nice to catch up 🙂 Glad you liked M&C too, I can’t wait to go back. Thanks for the link too!
