Rachel's Guide to Newcastle and Beyond!

Remember the pride and passion we all felt during the Olympic Games last summer? Well this weekend those same emotions are being stirred up right here in Geordieland as Europe’s top athletes compete at the Gateshead International Stadium!
A special opening ceremony took place last night at Baltic Square and the Millennium Bridge was tilted to mark the occasion. I always love seeing this iconic bridge in all it’s splendour, it really is jaw dropping!
I’m just getting ready to head down to the Stadium and have been practising my ‘Mo-bot’ in preparation for seeing Olympic gold medallists Mo Farah take part in 5000m. I’m also looking forward to seeing Greg Rutherford compete in the long jump and I’m sure my heart will be racing when I see high jumper Robbie Grabarz, he is one very handsome, I mean talented, athlete!!
Silver Olympic medalist Christine Ohuruogo is also part of Team GB hoping to do us proud in Gateshead over the next two days and if her recent interviews in the local press are anything to go by she’s very excited about being here in the North East.
If you weren’t quick enough of the mark to get tickets to the European Athletics Team Championships this weekend then you can watch live coverage on BBC One, I’ll try and give you a wave! I’ll also be blogging again on Sunday night with a round up of what I’ve witnessed over the weekend. In the meantime you can also keep up to date following these names on Twitter…
