Blogger’s Best Places to Eat in North Tyneside

Well hello there, apologies it’s been a while, I’ve been away skiing in Austria. I had an absolutely awesome time and am pleased to report that both my fella and I returned home injury free, hurrah!
Now that I’m back in Geordieland I am looking forward to my next adventure… a staycation in North Tyneside! I am so excited to be spending some quality time in this beautiful part of the North East next weekend and am especially looking forward to checking out some of the foodie options on offer.
Such a stunning part of the North East!
It seems that Whitley Bay in particular has had a bit of resurgence of its restaurant scene in recent years and there are so many fantastic eateries I am eager to try. To help me narrow down my list, I turned to the North East blogging community and asked them to vote for their favourite places to eat in North Tyneside, they didn’t let me down. These are the restaurants that topped the list:
Riley’s Fish Shack

It came as no surprise to me that Riley’s was a firm favourite with local bloggers. Its location on the beautiful unspoilt beach at King Edward’s Bay in Tynemouth makes it one of the most unique (and insta-worthy!) places to eat in the whole of the North East. Even the culinary legend Michel Roux Junior sang its praises on his Channel 4 TV show ‘Hidden Restaurants’. The queues are notoriously long on a sunny day but I am assured that the freshly prepared seafood is well worth the wait.

Evan’s Bistro

Next on the list is family friendly restaurant Evan’s Bistro. I have heard nothing but good things about this relatively new restaurant in the heart of Whitley Bay. Moderate prices, hearty portions, local produce and a laid back atmosphere are all things that got repeated over and over again when I asked around. It’s a firm favourite with North East blogging royalty Samantha Rickleton, the foodie photos on her review will make you drool!

A tantalising feast of Asian tapas is what awaits at Omni Cafe. This hidden gem is just a 2 minute walk from the Metro station in Monkseaton, at the end of a residential street. I bet the locals couldn’t believe their luck when it opened. How yummy does the food look in Katie’s tweet above? Elder and Wolf

I’m a big fan of restaurants that do a small menu really well rather than offering a million different mediocre dishes. By the looks of things, Elder and Wolf focus on three main options, kebabs, tacos and pizza. There’s meat, veggie, vegan and GF varieties so everyone is catered for and the imaginative combination of ingredients and beautiful presentation has made them a sure fire hit in Whitley Bay. I will definitely be making a bee line for this place during my upcoming staycation!
Where Else?
The eateries mentioned above where the ones that got the most love when I asked around the North East blogging community but there are so many more that could easily compete to be the best in North Tyneside!
Kith and Kin comes highly recommended for coffee and cake. James and I are big fans of The Beehive in Earsdon, the Sunday lunches there are amazing! Plus, who can resist fish and chips from Marshall’s in Tynemouth? Not me!
We are also really excited to hear that street food favourite Papa Ganoush recently opened a restaurant in Whitley Bay, definitely want to check that out!
I am also planning to tick Hinnies off my list of top North East restaurants as I’m a big fan of the other two restaurants in the same group, Blackfriars and Dobson and Parnell (both in Newcastle).

The Artisan cafe , ilfracombe gardens , Whitley Bay, an amazing Sunday lunch.
And La riviera in Cullercoats authentic Italy food -delicious!
And The Roxburgh , we are certainly spoilt in this area !
I am SO excited about eating out in Whitley Bay at the moment, it’s just incredible! We actually made our first visit to Elder and Wolf on Saturday (blog is coming later this week .. plug! LOL) and it was fantastic! Kath and Kin is definitely on the list for next time and I really want to head back to Evans for a date night!
Oceans, North shields fish quay, massive fish with loads of chips with bread and butter and pot of tea hoyed in as well, can’t be beaten
The Roxburgh! Whitley Bay.
Longsands Fish Kitchen, the best of both ways to satisfy your lust for fish. Great fish and chips to go served from a traditional take out and a quality fish reastaraunt if you prefer your fish in every other way straight from the quayside.
Well Rachel, I trully agree with your list & certainly with Riley’s Shack on top, which doesn’t look like English but more like Mediterranean I’d say… My 2 top picks though, which you don’t mention are The Longsands Fish Kitchen in Tynemouth and The View in Cullercoats. A really new place, the Carpathian Speciality that sells Chimney Cakes, a “grilled doughnut tunnel.” Great sharing dessert, however, I barely seen anyone who strugled to eat it.
Ideal to take it away and eat it while you take a walk on the coast. Or have a seat and enjoy it with tea or coffee.
Valentino’s park view whitleybay is definately one of the best restaurants in whitleybay family run great service great food
Think you should definately have Valentino’s on park view on your list food is fabulous family run so service is brilliant should definately be in the top ten
Try the Low Lights Tavern down the Fish Quay you won’t be disappointed they do the most amazing homemade pies!! X x
I live in North Tyneside and I am getting married at a lush venue in North Tyneside next year so I have a bit of a soft spot for the area. So many great suggestions here x
