A Sumptuous Spa Day at Slaley Hall

January 24, 2017 in Luxury 3

We all feel a little frazzled from time to time and when we do there really is nothing more therapeutic than a pampering spa day, don’t you agree?

One of my favourite spa retreats is just a half-hour drive from Newcastle on the outskirts of Hexham; Slaley Hall is part of the Q Hotels group and its facilities include a heated indoor swimming pool, whirlpool, sauna, steam room and several luxurious ESPA treatment rooms. There’s also a gym but I can’t say I’ve ever shown my face in there!

For me, the joy of a spa day is being able to switch off from the stresses of everyday life and as soon as you leave the A68 and take the scenic country road that leads to Slaley Hall, you can feel yourself relax immediately. James and I jumped at the chance to escape there during the hectic festive season, I suspect many people have visited to banish the January blues too but let’s be honest, there’s never a bad time of year for a spa day!

On our recent visit we indulged in a full day of blissful pampering. We started with drinks in the juice bar and got some of our five a day while we filled out the necessary paperwork needed for our treatments. We’d arrived early in the morning so the pool was nice and quiet and we were able to enjoy swimming a few lengths without the interruption of young children splashing about. I know that sounds terrible but the pool is quite popular with families (probably because of the slide!) and it can get rather busy on Saturday afternoons.

After a relaxing swim and sauna, James and I retreated to Hadrian’s Brassiere, the hotel restaurant, for a leisurely lunch overlooking the golf course…

Spa guests are welcome to dine in their fluffy robes but in hindsight I wish I’d changed because the brasserie is on the opposite side of the hotel from the spa and service was a little slow so I soon found myself shivering. The food was lovely though, it was served in the style of a bento box with different items each in their own little section. I chose grilled halloumi with mine and James went for Salmon. A little slice of lemon cheesecake was even included, it was like a miniature buffet!

After lunch, James and I had appointments for ESPA Face & Back Rituals. ESPA is a brand synonymous with quality and we were both looking forward to our pampering treatments; combining a gentle exfoliation and relaxing aromatherapy back massage with a face and scalp massage. The package is designed to melt away tension and leave skin radiant, I can honestly say it delivered on both those promises!

We were pleasantly surprised to discover that our therapists had arranged to carry out our treatments at the same time in the same room, and what a room it was… Especially created for couples and decorated beautifully, it even had a huge sumptuous bed for chilling out on after our 60 minute treatments. The word ‘Hygge’ sprung to mind but I think my explanation of this Danish idea was a little lost on my fella! Nonetheless, we both thoroughly enjoyed the ESPA Face & Back Rituals immensely, our therapists were both well experienced and made us feel completely invigorated!

To extend our chill out time further (and because neither of us wanted to tear ourselves from Slaley Hall), James and I also spent some time hanging out in the spa’s tranquil relaxation room where there plenty of cosy corners with tasteful furnishings, perfect for curling up with a glossy magazine and forgetting about the outside world.

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s worth mentioning that Slaley Hall have some tempting offers for their spa available at the moment. Maybe just leave your laptop open on the following page in a place where your loved one might see it 😉 www.qhotels.co.uk/offers

Or if you’d rather not rely on them picking up subtle hints then contact the spa directly and book your own sumptuous spa day at Slaley Hall; Call 01434 673 193 or email SlaleySpa@QHotels.co.uk

It looks so beautiful! I’ve barely scratched the surface of North East spas, there are so many I want to try. Really should get at least one ticked off the list this year!
