Hooker & Young: British Hairdresser of the Year Nominees

I recently had the pleasure of meeting legendary local hairdressers Gary Hooker & Michael Young at a VIP Big Hair event at their Jesmond salon.  Not only did the event give me the chance to congratulate the North East couple on their recent nomination at the British Hairdresser of the Year Awards, but it also gave me the opportunity to find out for my self what all the fuss is about by having a nosey round their workplace!

There are five Hooker and Young salons in the North East, the one in Jesmond is in a two storey building on the stylish Clayton Road. The decor is sleek and minimal and there’s certainly a luxurious feel about the place.

I got chatting to one of the stylists called Sara who gave me a few tips about how to style my locks, which I’ve been growing from quite some time now, Sara was really fun and friendly, just like Gary and Michael and I got the impression that their clients are extremely well looked after.

I also got the chance to catch up with Claire Barber who was involved in organising the VIP event which featured delicious cocktails and canapés from local bar SOHE on Osborne Road.

There was a pop up shop from ROX Jewellery and I bumped in to lots of lovely bloggers too. All in all it was a lovely evening and I was delighted to be handed an incredibly generous goody bag on the way home which was filled with fabulous hair products and a beautiful pair of earrings from ROX!

It will be utterly brilliant if Gary and Michael can bring home the award for Hairdresser of the Year 2015 so keep your fingers crossed for them! Either way, the north east is lucky to have them.
