Surfing in Tynemouth
As a freezing cold wave surged towards me, I braced myself for the inevitable splash of salty North sea that would end up in my eyes and up my nose. I heard a voice from the shore shout ‘Are you OK Rachel?’… ‘Yeah’, I yelled back, ‘I’m having a brilliant time’!
Surf’s Up Dude!
One of the many things I love about living in Geordieland is the close proximity to the beautiful North East beaches and in my closest coastal town of Tynemouth you will often see people enjoying the exhilarating activity of surfing.
Not one to shy away from new experiences, it’s something I have taken part in myself with the wonderful Tynemouth Surf Co. Despite not being particularly confident in the water, I loved it and would recommend anyone to give it a go!
Learning the basics with Tynemouth Surf Co
To give you a flavour for what to expect I’ve dug out some old footage of my first ever surf lesson and added some commentary, I hope it encourages you to get out there and give surfing a try!
PS – My top tip for surfing is leave your vanity at home! As you can see, it’s not the most flattering activity I’ve ever tried 🙂

My best friend’s boyfriend is a surfer and used to work in a surf school in Cornwall. He makes it look SO easy but I’m sure it isn’t!
Looks so fun but unfortunately I can’t swim so will have to give this one a miss 🙁
