Rachel's Guide to Newcastle and Beyond!

It’s not often you witness the birth of the future king (and by witness, I mean follow the real-time updates on Twitter), so the arrival of the Royal baby yesterday undoubtedly has us all in the mood for celebrating.
Why not do it in true Geordie style with a look down to the NewcastleGateshead quayside this evening? Whet the baby’s head with a champagne cocktail at Malmaison or Pitcher & Piano, and make sure you grab a seat with a Gateshead Millennium Bridge view – it’s being turned blue for the occasion!
If you fancy some food while you’re out and about, The Broad Chare is an ideal (and somewhat patriotic) choice, serving up proper British fare and home brewed ales that never disappoint. After filling your boots, work some of it off with a stroll around the Quayside mile to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the sights of NewcastleGateshead’s famous bridges.
Don’t forget to give HMS Calliope a wave while you’re down there – they’re officially operating as a dressed ship with an extra flag flying on the main mast in honour of the Royal bairn.
