A Lancome Makeover at Fenwick

August 27, 2016 in Shopping 4

I am rubbish at make up, there I’ve said it! How I’ve got to the age of 34 without mastering the skill of applying eye liner I don’t know. Perhaps it’s because I was a bit of a tomboy when I was younger, maybe it’s because I didn’t have a big sister (or YouTube) to show me the way when I was growing up or it could be because I’m just a bit lazy (probably the latter)!

Thankfully, when I feel the need for a full face of make up, because of a big night out on the Toon or a special occasion, I have the fabulous Fenwick beauty hall on my doorstep!

Fenwick is one my favourite department stores in the whole world and it’s rather unique to Newcastle. Although there are a handful of other Fenwick stores across the country, none of them compare to the flagship store on Northumberland Street where the beauty hall is one of the largest in Europe.

Makeovers, makeup lessons and treatments can be booked with several brands at Fenwick including Benefit, Bobbi Brown, Chanel, Charlotte Tilbury, Clarins, Dior, Estée Lauder, Kiehl’s, MAC and Tom Ford to name but a few. Booking fees range from £25 to £55 depending on the counter and artist you choose and the amount is usually redeemable against products.

Me with no make up and a lot of freckles!

My go to beauty counter has to be LancĂ´me, I’ve always received great advice from the friendly team who are really down to earth and don’t patronise. Plus I love the way the products feel on my skin, they seem lighter than some other brands, allowing the skin to breath no matter how much you apply. The lipsticks in particular are very good quality, they last hours which is great for me (did I mention how lazy I am?) and the colours are really vibrant.

On my most recent visit I was hoping for a quite a dramatic transformation as I’d been feeling a bit down and thought a total make over would give me a pick me up. So I asked Christine for a lesson on how to achieve a smokey eye look.

Some of the products used for my makeover, if only my dressing table looked like this!

It was the first time I’d met Christine but she put me at east immediately. Her analysis of my skin and ability to quickly understand exactly what kind of products would suit me was impressive. We chatted with ease and she gave me lots of really useful tips that I have already started to work in to my own routine. Like using a little of the Effacernes Longue Tenue concealer (a favourite of mine) under my eyebrows to make them appear more arched and to highlight the eyes.

The Hypnose Palette (Matte Beige Brulé) that Christine used to help create my smokey eyes features the innovative Lancôme “wet” eye shadow technology, allowing a range of effects and intensities to be achieved. It also comes with a handy guide to help you re-create smokey eyes at home without on expert on hand.

I love red lippy for a night out as it’s so different to my usual day time look (aka tinted moisturiser and lip balm!) so I couldn’t resist a little application of the best-selling LancĂ´me Rouge in Love to complete my transformation!

Before and after, I hardly recognised myself!

I absolutely loved my makeup lesson with Lancôme, it made me feel so confident and I picked up some great tips. As the £30 booking fee was redeemable against products I decided to treat myself to the eyeshadow palette but whether or not I will be able to recreate those glam smokey eyes remains to be seen! I can tell you that even after getting caught in the rain and dancing the night away at the launch of Summer Storeys, my new look lasted all night, just check out the pictures on my blog review of the event for proof!

If you’d like to try out a new look for yourself then put the 13th of September in your diary… Celebrity makeup artist and YouTube sensation Marc Sinclair will be hosting a workshop with LancĂ´me from 5.30pm to 8pm at Fenwick. To book for this or for any other cosmetic services at Fenwick call 0191 232 5100 or email newcastle.beauty@fenwick.co.uk

You absolute stunner! I’m the same as you, I’m still learning every day how to apply makeup and have only really been giving it a proper go in the last year thanks to YouTube tutorials. Nothing beats a makeover in Fenwick though, Simon bought me a Charlotte Tilbury makeover for Valentines that I still haven’t used yet – I’m waiting for the perfect time!
