I Shall Go To The Ball (with a little help from Amazon Prime Now!)

December 1, 2015 in Festivals and Events 2

Last week, the lovely people at Luxe Magazine invited James and I to be guests at the Spiderman Ball, a prestigious fundraising event at the Hilton NewcastleGateshead in honour of testicular cancer survivor and former Newcastle United player Jonas Gutierrez.

I think the organisers had heard about me being a runner up in the Journal’s North East Twitterati Awards and they thought I would enjoy tweeting about the star studded evening… they were right!

However, before I could even contemplate a selfie on the red carpet I had a drama to deal with… getting ready for a black tie ball in the ladies loos after a long day at work. Every girls worst nightmare right?

Thankfully I managed to get my nails done on my lunch hour but it had been a couple of months since my last hair appointment and the weather had left my locks looking like they’d been dragged through a hedge!

Then I remembered that Amazon Prime Now had launched in Newcastle a few days earlier. Prime Now gives customers access to over 15,000 products with ultra fast delivery. It’s just 6.99 to get items delivered within an hour or you can choose a two hour delivery slot for free, right up till midnight! Until recently only people in London and Birmingham could use the app based shopping service but now it’s available for North East postcodes including Gateshead, Durham and Sunderland as well as Newcastle.

I’d been meaning to treat myself to some new straighteners for ages and seeing as Amazon had been kind enough to send me a promo code I quickly downloaded the app and ordered the GHD IV Styler.

I must admit I was a little sceptical as to whether or not my purchase would actually arrive within one hour but low and behold, a little icon on the ‘track my order’ page of the app started moving and I was informed that ‘Glenn was on his way with my order’ before I’d even finished applying my mascara!

You could have knocked down with a feather when Glenn showed up at the door 54 minutes later like a modern day fairy godmother! I’ve waited longer for a takeaway to be delivered! Something tells me this app is going to come in rather handy over the festive season, especially as you can get food and drink delivered within an hour too.

I shall go to the ball!

I shall go to the ball!

A few minutes later my transformation was complete and I made it to the ball in time to enjoy a sparkling champagne reception and grab a selfie with Spiderman!

The event was a whirlwind of fashion shows, dance performances, sports quizzes, charity auctions and celeb spotting, the hours flew by way too quickly. The Hilton really is the perfect venue for events like this in the North East, a great time was had by all and thousands of pounds were raised for the worthy charity Ball Boys.

I’d like to thank Luxe Magazine for the invite and Amazon Prime Now for making sure I didn’t turn up looking too bedraggled!
